Greek & Roman Studies at McMaster offers undergraduate students a wide variety of quality, in-depth and hands-on undergraduate programs.

Our program trains students to understand ancient culture from different perspectives and through multidisciplinary approaches to help better understand the world in which we live.

Highlighted Undergraduate Courses

GKROMST 2D03 – Greek and Roman Mythology

A study of the myths of Greek and Roman gods and heroes, their explanation according to theories on the nature of myths, and their use by Greek and Roman authors, particularly Homer and Virgil.

GKROMST 2MT3 – Ancient Roots of Medical Terminology

This course presents Greek and Latin roots out of which is built the vocabulary of contemporary medicine and reveals the predictable patterns by which these roots combine. Students will learn to define new compounds and phrases by analysis of their parts.

Concurrent Certificate in the Language of Medicine and Health

This certificate offers students the chance to develop an understanding of medical terminology with Greek and Latin language courses.

Interdisciplinary Minor in Archaeology (Administered by Department of Anthropology)

Greek & Roman Studies students are able to obtain an interdisciplinary minor in archaeology.

Many humanities graduates become professional chameleons of sorts. We leave university with these highly developed critical thinking and communication skills and can apply them to any number of industries.
